Dear Students & Parents,
Welcome to the 20 -21 school year. Whether you are a new 7th grader or a new or returning 8th grader, we are glad to have you on campus! We are firm believers in the power of the growth mindset and self-efficacy. We approach each year with the belief that all of our students are capable of learning, growth, and goal achievement.
Every day, your child will be immersed in the growth mindset in all of our classrooms. Our students will be asked to take educational risks. They will be praised, not only for their mental quickness or natural intelligence, but for approaching the process of learning with grit and determination. And they will grow in ways they never thought possible. Because we are encouraging them to take risks we understand they are going to make mistakes. Making and fixing mistakes is a valuable part of the growth mindset approach to learning.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure your child can achieve their highest potential. We understand that in order to be successful in school, our students need support from both the home and school. As partners, we share the responsibility for each students’ success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning and growth mindset by:
- Encouraging your child to take risks and tackle new challenges at school and at home.
- Praising your child not for the ease with which he or she learns a concept but for the amount of effort put into learning.
- Emphasizing perseverance and effort in curricular and extracurricular activities.
A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. I hope you'll commit to joining us on this growth-mindset and self-efficacy journey. We cannot do it without your help.
Principal,
Veronica Rodriguez
